Hesh your craftsmanship never ceases to impress. I wonder if the great sound has something to do with you improving as a builder.

Congratulations on yet another finely crafted instrument

Common myrtle Umbellularia californica found in the lumber yards of the USA and has commonly been used for guitar building in the past is derived from the genus "Umbellularia".

Tiger Myrtle, Nothofagus cunninghamii is a separate species altogether. It is endemic to Australia and belongs to the genus "Nothofagus".

Other than the fact that the 2 species share a somewhat confusing common name, they have no link to each other what so ever, chalk and cheese.

Hope this clears things up.

Cheers

Kim

Well Hesh.....

I'll start by saying that this is one awesome looking guitar.

When you first mentioned giving it a gloss black top, I was so stoked as I had something in my mind of what this would look like and I thought that it would be very cool.

When the guitar was coming together, seeing that gorgeous Lutz top with all the awesome medulary rays I was starting to about the idea of painting it black.

Than when you posted the first progress picture of the paint from Tony, I honestly thought "Oh No, what has he done!" I was mortified, I was not expecting myself to react so strongly. That's why I posted, "I will hold my response till it's all done." (or something like that)

And than yesterday, you posted the picture of you gluing the bridge on and I was so shocked that I didn't like it. I was just shaking my head. "Wow, I sure hope he likes it" I thought, and I really, honestly did not like it at all.

Now that it's all finished..................

I have to say, with total honesty that this is probably the most gorgeous guitar that I have ever seen. Everything balances' itself out right down to the bridge pins, the heal cap, the neck from John and the silver tuners. Everything is perfect.

Hesh......I love it.

And the finish is absolutely incredible.

I can see that you have a white Christmas tree with blue and silver bulbs from the first picture,

And.......

I'm sure glad that you were wearing pants when you took the pictures .

This is what I would call a great vision brought forth to perfection Hesh.

Hesh, this guitar looks so good that it would make my face look bad!

Seriously, i was a bit like Rod at first when you mentionned your desire to have that top black but i remember deciding to put my trust in your good taste and i wasn't wrong, you pulled it off superbly on this one, she's just purdy beyond words, i'll now seriously dream of makin' me one with a black top as well!

Congrats bro, she's to die for!

Hesh,

Lovely looking guitar. Your building "chops" are getting better with each one you make. It's not what I would have done but as you probably know I just love people who are not afraid to do things differently from the norm and follow their own "muse" and instincts, pushing the envelope rather than ploughing well defined channels. Well done

Looking forward to hearing the sound clips.

Shane's tops are the business but I think you will like the Euro one too. Shane's lutz is very close to euro in looks feel and tone.

Glad that the parabolic has worked well - how does it sound? I assume that it's all mids with no bass and trebles as I seem to have read somewhere that parabolic bracing makes guitars sound like

Well done again and I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.

OLF Law!

Hesh, that is just awesome. The black top shines like a chrome mirror!
Don't go playing it on a stage with bright lights...you'll blind the audience.

I know there was a lot of detractors against the black top and at the start i thought you may be a little crazy myself..... but "dare to be different" and great foresight has paid off in spades.....It looks great...and a perfect choice to match those beautiful sides is the black top....
and I'm glad that the sound gives you the inspiration to play more......you know your onto something when you can't put it down..
I loved following this build...keep them coming

Hesh,

As a beginning luthier (I'm not even sure I'm qualified to use the word yet), I'm overwhelmed by your work. This is a FABULOUS guitar. I'm short, and have just finished a "Hauser" classical, and have an OM about 80% done for my son. But I think I will try this size for my next guitar, since it will suit my size even better than a OM. I'm going to order some Lutz spruce tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing all your work so well for us beginning builders

Gene

Hesh, my first reaction was, " wow, what a classy looking guitar". And the more I look, the more I like it! Your workmanship is super neat, and your taste and design is something special. That's some Christmas present for......??
P.S. GO BUCKS!
Geeze, everyone has been very kind and gracious - is everyone feeling OK?
Okay I'll bite. Hesh isn't it you who lives by the motto -- if you don't have anything nice to say, then stay quiet? Well -- why do you think it took me so long to comment in this thread    Seriously bro -- well done, I like it more each time I look at it. Further given all the heat you took from the black top nay sayers -- you prevailed and showed 'em all.

So what's next Hesh -- I think it's time for an archtop (blonde of course)

Hesh, that looks absolutely stunning my friend!!!

It all comes together beautifully! I love that Myrtle... Wild stuff, my friend!

How did the 'disapearing' end-graft come out?

Rod! Good one! I think were just lucky on that one! (I happen to know that Hesh's secret is that he builds in the nude... The Tone Fairies like this very much!!! Hey, they don't call them 'fairies' for nothing! )

I'm glad to hear that you like the sound. I hope that some day I'll get the chance to try that beauty!

Top drawer as usuall my friend... Top drawer...
